Photographs from the cycle “Mary Has Hands of Gold” represent a unique kind of archeology of every day’s life. Models were women in a typical woman’s space with accessories that make it that way: hoods, rollers, combs, towels, woman magazines… A beauty salon – a beauty laboratory. Unexpectedly, the people in the photos are old women with dry faces, wrinkles, big eyes and sharp contours. The ones one would least expect at a beauty salon. This place is a bit forgotten, as is its clientele also.
Serious faces, underlined with the brightness and redness of surrounding décor. Among all these faces, you will find Maria, the hairdresser, “the good goddess” of this sanctuary who also belongs to this forgotten circle. Deprived of any pathos, it becomes a story of dignity and perseverance.
